Biography

After leaving school, I completed an Apprenticeship as a Laboratory Technician in the petrochemical industry, gaining a HNC in Chemistry. I subsequently completed a BSc and PhD in Chemistry at UMIST. My research focused on the use of chromatographic methods for the analysis and synthesis of compounds that could inspire the production of new medicinal drugs.

I joined Buckinghamshire New University in 1994 and I am pleased to have made important contributions in various roles and departments, particularly, the Forest Products Research Centre and Computing. My teaching expertise has expanded beyond science, into areas, such as, game design, agile project management, human-computer interaction and programming. I am now Deputy Head of School for Creative and Digital Industries, including Computing. I support the Head of School in leadership and operational management of the portfolio. This incorporates workload and budget planning, people management and development, and effective delivery of teaching, research, enterprise and partnership activities.

I am a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (CChem MRSC), the British Computer Society (AMBCS) and Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

My specialist knowledge in chemistry and materials science was important for UK and international research projects (including, WRAP, TWIG and Powdercoat). A recent highlight has been the establishment of an Apprenticeship Degree in Digital and Technology Solutions, for the development of software engineers at Sky, and IT professionals working for other organisations.
