Tuition fees

Tuition fees are a key matter for all students, and it is important you are familiar with how to pay and what support may be available to you.

We charge our tuition fees once a year, at the start of each year of study – and these fees are subject to change annually. Some courses also have additional costs associated with them, and it’s important you familiarise yourself with these so that you can budget accordingly.

You’ll find details of course fees, programme specifications and additional costs on our individual course pages for UK, EU and international students. Please use the course search facility on the Buckinghamshire New University home page to look at the course you’re interested in.

For more information about fees and costs for specific courses, visit our individual course pages.

If you spend a year on a work placement as part of your course, your fee for this year will be significantly lower at £1,400.

BNU fees commitment ensures that whichever fee regime you start your course on, it will remain at the same level for the duration of your course - irrespective of any future changes in government policy or rises in maximum fee levels.

Paying your fees

When you register on your course you are responsible for ensuring the University receives payment for the tuition fee. Where you have applied for a student loan you must ensure your application is complete. If we do not receive payment of the fees from Student Finance you will become personally liable for the payment of those fees.

If you have not applied for funding or you are not eligible for funding, you must ensure that all tuition fees are paid to the University.

If your personal sponsor has not paid you will become personally liable for the payment of those fees.

You will need to ensure that you complete the instalment agreement form with the correct start dates, which you will find below.

More information on how to pay.

Cooling off period

Buckinghamshire New University allows a 14-day cooling off period for all Programmes of Study along with any Programmes of study which are considered either Distance Learning or Flexible Distributed Learning. This allows 14 days for the Student to change their mind about their chosen course and formally Withdraw without financial penalty. The 14-day period starts from the date the student signs their enrolment form; ‘day one’ or the start date of the course which includes Fresher’s week for new starters, whichever is later.

For online or remote enrolment this is taken as the date it is confirmed online or the form is received by Buckinghamshire New University.

To apply the student must formally withdraw from their course within this 14-day period. Please refer to the Interruption, Withdrawal or Transfer of Studies Procedure for further information on how to do this.

If the student cancels their contract in accordance with the previous section, we will reimburse all payments which have made in respect of the cancelled contract. We will make the reimbursement without undue delay using the same means of payment the student used for their initial transaction. Where a student applied and received their student loan, the University will inform the Student Loans Company of the overpayment.

International students should contact the International Office for advice.

Withdrawing, suspending or deferring - UK/EU Undergraduate Students

If you leave in term one, two or three, we will charge you the following:

  • Term one: 25% fees
  • Term two: 50% fees
  • Term three: 100% fees.

Returners or students re-sitting will also be liable for tuition fees in line with tuition fee loan dates set by Student Finance.

  • Term one, two and three (full year): 100% fees
  • Term two and three (January returner): 75% fees
  • Term one only: 25% fees
  • Term two only: 25% fees
  • Term three only: 50% fees.

For those students who are not using Student Finance Tuition Fee Loans please see the Tuition Fee Payment Dates chart below. We will charge you fees for every term that you attended the University. If you leave in term one, two or three, we will charge you one third for each term you have completed or started. The liability date is day one of each term.
