Tuition fees
Tuition fees are a key matter for all students, and it is important you are familiar with how to pay and what support may be available to you.
We charge our tuition fees once a year, at the start of each year of study – and these fees are subject to change annually. Some courses also have additional costs associated with them, and it’s important you familiarise yourself with these so that you can budget accordingly.
You’ll find details of course fees, programme specifications and additional costs on our individual course pages for UK, EU and international students. Please use the course search facility on the Buckinghamshire New University home page to look at the course you’re interested in.
For more information about fees and costs for specific courses, visit our individual course pages.
For Payment and debt procedures for students and commercial customers, please go to this link.
BNU fees commitment ensures that whichever fee regime you start your course on, it will remain at the same level for the duration of your course - irrespective of any future changes in government policy or rises in maximum fee levels.
Our agreed fees for 2023-24 (approved by the OfS in February 2023) can be found on this page.
Paying your fees
When you register on your course you are responsible for ensuring the University receives payment for the tuition fee. Tuition fees become due in full once you have started your course.
Buckinghamshire New University offer all students paying their tuition fee in full or three instalments option. Please be aware that we are unable to offer bespoke payment plans.
For self-financing students, organising the payment of your tuition fees is essential. If you do not pay your fees on time you may not have access to all of the facilities
Students are responsible for avoiding any financial risks, such as fraud and phishing emails/links, when paying their tuition fees through a third party on your behalf.
Now click on this link for more information on how to pay.
Sponsorship
Students who are being sponsored by an employer should make sure we have this information in writing and before you start your course. Please upload this evidence when completing your online enrolment. Confirmation can be in the form of:
- a purchase order
- a sponsorship form: for one student or for several students on the same course
- a signed letter from the sponsor containing invoicing information and the amount being sponsored.
A copy of the sponsorship form can be emailed to income@bnu.ac.uk.
Sponsors will receive an invoice for the tuition fees. Fees are due in full 30 days from date of invoice.
If your personal sponsor has not paid you will become personally liable for the payment of those fees.
Student loan
Where you have applied for a student loan you must ensure your application is complete. In order for the University to receive the funds. You must apply for funding within 9 months of the start of your course. If we do not receive payment of the fees from Student Finance you will become personally liable for the payment of those fees.
If you have not applied for funding or you are not eligible for funding, you must ensure that all tuition fees are paid to the University.
What will happen if my Student Finance is not arranged before the first tuition fee instalment is due?
If no payment has been made by yourself or student finance against any outstanding tuition instalment it is likely you will receive a reminder from our income team. If you applied for student finance funding please send evidence of this to income@bnu.ac.uk so they know you are awaiting action from student finance.
If you are a Postgraduate student with funding from student finance, we would remind you that it is your responsibility to pay your tuition fees with the university in line with your instalment dates.
Cooling off period
If for any reason a student change your mind about joining the University after you have accepted the offer, you have a right to cancel your acceptance of the offer within 14 days
Buckinghamshire New University allows a 14-day cooling off period for all Programmes of Study along with any Programmes of study which are considered either Distance Learning or Flexible Distributed Learning to withdraw without financial penalty. The 14-day period starts from the date the student taken your enrolment online; ‘day one’ or the start date of the course which includes Fresher’s week for new starters, whichever is later.
To apply the student must formally withdraw from their course within this 14-day period. Please refer to the Interruption, Withdrawal or Transfer of Studies Procedure for further information on how to do this.
If the student cancels their contract in accordance with the previous section, we will reimburse all payments which have made in respect of the cancelled contract. We will make the reimbursement without undue delay using the same means of payment the student used for their initial transaction. Where a student applied and received their student loan, the University will inform the Student Loans Company of the overpayment.
International students should contact the International Office for advice.

Accommodation Fees
Students in University accommodation are required to pay the accommodation rents and licence fee for the duration of their licence period. Students should refer to the full terms and conditions of their signed licence agreement. Contact the Accommodation Department for more information.
Sanctions for students with an academic debt
Sanctions will be applied to current students who do not adhere to University policy for the payment of any amount owing in respect of tuition fees. Finance will notify the student that their IT network accounts and ID cards will be temporarily disabled unless payment is received.
If a reply is not received from the student within two weeks after sanction, your case may be sent to our debts collection agency-Oriel which will incur a charge of at least 10% of the value of the amount outstanding, plus any VAT chargeable.
