On-campus Software for BNU students

As a student at BNU, you get a range of free software products that you can use on your laptops, tablets and other devices. You can access specialist software on the PCs and MACs at the University campuses.

Free software for students

Whilst you are a student at the University, you can have free access to the following software. If you need help with this software, please contact the IT Service Desk.

Microsoft Office 365 is a group of software and service subscriptions, offered by Microsoft, which together provide productivity software and related services to subscribers.

While you are a student at BNU you are eligible to benefit from the Microsoft Office 365 Education program. This gives you access to Office Online (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote), Outlook, 1TB of personal cloud storage, Yammer, and SharePoint sites. You are also eligible to install the full Office applications on up to 5 PCs or Macs for free.

Installation Instructions

  • Enter the link below in a web browser address bar - https://office.com
  • Sign in with your bucks.ac.uk username E.g. 21302939@bucks.ac.uk

Microsoft Teams allows you to collaborate with your teacher and other fellow BNU students through instant messaging, online meetings (audio calls, video calls and screen sharing) and sharing of documents (create, share and store files). MS Teams will be particularly useful if you’re doing research work/projects as a group and you have a need to collaborate often.

All BNU students can access Teams on the web through Office 365 but you have no permission to create Teams. Only your teacher can create a Team.

You must always ensure you are sharing personal data only with those who have a strict need to know. Please refer to the University’s Data Protection Policy for further information.

Accessing MS Teams

You can access MS Teams using your web browser and sign in using your BNU username (studentID@bucks.ac.uk e.g. 12345678@bucks.ac.uk) and password.

Protecting your computer from malware is also a key component of IT security. Malware (malicious software) is any program or file that is harmful to your computer. Examples of malware include viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and also spyware (programming that gathers information about a computer user without permission). They are spread easily through websites, peer to peer (P2P) software, email, or on USB sticks.

Not only does malware stop your computer from working properly it can also allow people to access your personal data and prevent you getting access to your accounts.

The University recommends installing the free Sophos Anti-Virus software to protect your computer and data from unwanted virus and malware attacks. Detailed instructions on how to install it are included on the website. Please note that the IT Service Desk does not provide assistance for this download or extension of the trial period.
