The Gateway Gym at BNU is fully equipped with the very latest training equipment. We have fully qualified, experienced Fitness Coaches who are on hand to assist at all times and can work with you to develop a personalised training programme, based exclusively around your goals.

We have 8 membership options available to all, so whether you're a student, a member of staff, part of the BNU alumni, or just want to use our gym, we have bespoke memberships to suit your needs.
Since re-opening on 12 April, the Fitness Team have enjoyed welcoming back student, employee and community members to the Gateway Gym. We have also been delighted to introduce our fantastic facilities and services to new members, some of whom were completely new to such an environment. Our friendly and attentive team are always on hand to support current and prospective members, and we believe that our personal approach, rather than a one size fits all attitude means you will be able to make the most out of your time using the facilities and services we offer.
From 17 May our face-to-face group exercise programme returns, and we are excited to make the move from online to on-site provision of one of the most fun and rewarding ways to exercise. Recognising how successful and popular our livestreamed provision has been during lockdowns, we will however continue to deliver some sessions online. See our group exercise page for more details.
Whilst the lockdown restrictions may be easing, we are acutely aware that a degree of uncertainty may remain for some time regarding the risks of using exercise facilities and services. Each member of the Gateway Gym’s Fitness Team has therefore made a personal commitment to do everything they can to make sure that so far as is possible, members are left in no doubt that their health and safety remains a priority in everything we do. In the section below, you will see a list of measures we have introduced which allows us to proudly display ukactive’s ‘Covid-19 Response Approved’ logo confirming that we have implemented all the recommendations put forward in their framework for the re-opening of fitness centres. What returning members will already know, and what we hope to demonstrate to prospective members is that the Fitness Team takes their responsibility for upholding these measures extremely seriously and at the same time we ask everyone to be mindful of their responsibilities towards each other.

As you might imagine, we have implemented many important changes in order to maximise your health and safety whilst using our facilities and services. These changes include measures aimed at promoting Covid-secure social distancing, increasing hygiene and raising awareness of our responsibilities towards each other.
|Social Distancing||We have maintained the 2m social distancing guideline as we believe this is appropriate for an exercise environment. We have created ‘personal zones’ in our group exercise studios and created a one way system around the gym. A number of exercise stations have been taken out of service so that adjacent exercisers are kept at least 2m apart.|
|Hygiene||Additional hand sanitising gel stations have been installed throughout the facilities and we encourage you to use them before, during and after your workouts. Towels are not permitted in the gym and we encourage personal belongings to be kept to a minimum.|
|Shared Efforts||Antibacterial wipe dispensers have been installed and it is expected that all exercise stations are wiped down by gym members after use. The Fitness Team has also increased the frequency of cleaning with a focus on touch points such as machine screens and door handles. We ask everyone to commit to observing the new measures and to help, we have placed simple reminders around the facilities.|

‘I started back at the Gateway Gym a week after it had re-opened. It was obvious a lot of work had been put in to make sure the gym was clean and conditions were adapted for Covid-19.
