Harrison Gilkes' story

Harrison Gilkes' story

The diverse and inclusive nature of BNU, along with competence/quality, is perhaps the most important trait which any educational institution can possess. So it was great that Bucks had it.

One of our BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance graduates, Harrison, recently sat down with us to talk about his experience as a Bucks student.

After taking an unconditional route to University, Harrison was offered the chance to study at BNU. This is something which kick-started his future. “I had a double distinction at BTEC level, I did not have any A Levels and many universities seemed reluctant to accept this. Bucks was one of the few universities who offered me a chance, which I grabbed with both hands and have not looked back since.”

Harrison now finds himself making waves in his role as a Project Analyst for PRA Health Sciences. He shares many aspects of his Bucks journey help him today. “I enjoyed my lectures, especially the ones which were interactive and required good group discussion; I found this to be an effective way to progress my learning forward. I was also able to become ACCA exam qualified just one year after leaving Bucks. This has been crucial in my career development.”

During his time at BNU, Harrison had the opportunity to take part in work-placement opportunities. He states this was great real-world experience and networking chance.

“I had the opportunity to work with a local business and aid them in improving the way they ran. This was brilliant in helping me prepare for the outside world as it gave me a real-life insight into how businesses actually operated - it also allowed for me to improve my network and prepare for life after university.”

BNU is proud to be an inclusive and diverse university. This is something, like many of our students, Harrison prasies Bucks for.

“I found making friends with people from such different backgrounds fun and engaging. The diverse and inclusive nature of BNU, along with competence/quality, is perhaps the most important trait which any educational institution can possess. So it was great that Bucks had it.”
