How to keep yourself safe on a night out

University is the perfect time to go out and explore the world as an independent adult. Whether you’re a fresher living your days to the fullest before the hard work starts, enjoying the weekend or celebrating finally finishing that essay, you can always guarantee you’ll be in for a good night. However, it’s important that you know how to keep yourself and your friends safe while doing so. I’m Lauren and I am going to share with you my top 5 tips on how to look after yourself while out and about!

Always use the Shushh bus. This is my absolute top tip. High Wycombe is a safe area, but for that extra bit of reassurance, BNU provides a shuttle bus on the busiest nights that will take you to the Students’ Union and your accommodation, for FREE!

Never let go of your drink. When entering clubs or our SU, you will be searched by security. However, just for your own protection, never leave your drink unattended. Some clubs and our Students’ Union provide cup covers to prevent spiking so make use of these.

Travel in a group. It’s vital that you travel in a group of friends, especially when it’s dark. Even if you plan on taking the shuttle bus, it’s always a good idea to go together. My group have downloaded Live360, which allows everyone in our group, and only our group, to see exactly where we all are in case someone ends up in trouble.

Always have your phone charged. If there’s anything I learnt from my first year, it’s to always go out with a fully charged phone. Not only will you need it to take loads of selfies in the bathroom, but for the safety side too. Your phone will be your first port of call if you end up in any danger.
