Biography

I am a Clinical and Coaching Psychologist, Chartered with the British Psychological Society and registered with the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC). After gaining my BSc (Hons) in Psychology in 1990, I went on to qualify in Clinical Psychology (MSc) in 1993 and began my career working in the NHS. I worked with adults with mental health difficulties in the community and in a hospital setting with people with chronic physical health issues including spinal injury and respiratory disorders.

I had a 20 year career gap from psychology following developing a chronic illness associated with burnout. This led to my interest in Positive Psychology, which was influential in helping me manage my health. I completed the MAPP at BNU in 2019 and PP In Coaching Course in 2020. Since then I have fulfilled my return to Clinical Practice requirements, trained as a Meditation and Mindfulness Teacher and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). As well as working as an Associate Lecturer on the MAPP program and PP in Coaching Course, I have a private therapy and coaching practice. In this, I work with adults both with and without mental health difficulties, to help them live more rich, full and meaningful lives using a combination of ACT, Appreciative Coaching and Positive Psychology.

I also write a regular blog for The Positive Psychology People. My areas of specific interest include mental health, eco anxiety, flourishing, self-compassion, mindfulness, ACT and psychological flexibility. I am passionate about helping people with long term health conditions, disabilities and other marginalised groups to thrive. I endeavour to use my strengths of love, kindness, perspective and fairness to enact my values of compassion, wisdom and authenticity in all I do. This is a work in progress!
