Jessica Wray

Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2023, I was a lecturer in Biomedical Science at Oxford Brookes and the University of Oxford. As part of this I undertook research into new molecular diagnostic tools, specialising in genomics of respiratory disease.

I am a fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science, the Royal Society of Biology and the HEA.  I studied my PhD at QMUL, following a BSc at Kings College London, and my specialist area of interest is infectious disease and public health.  The relationship between pathogen and host is ever evolving and with the advancement in genomic analysis, plus computational modelling, we can look to develop new tools in the fight against the world’s most deadly diseases.

My specialist knowledge has led me to work across many disciplines and collaborate with multiple institutions.  I feel this is a great way to help merge the world of healthcare and cutting-edge research.

My career highlight so far has been to help create Applied Science degree courses to offer students who would not otherwise enter higher education through traditional routes. I believe education should be accessible to all and I hope to develop this in the future here at BNU.
