Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 1992, I was a lecturer at Bristol Polytechnic teaching social work and community nursing students.  I also undertook research into the impact of privatisation policies in health, education and social care.

I studied for my PhD at the University of Bristol, researching the perspectives of people with learning difficulties on their quality of life and the quality of the services they received.  I have continued my interest in disability policy and have published in this area.  My current research and publications explore older people’s understanding of resilience, with a particular focus on the role of social relationships in sustaining resilience.

I am also interested in supporting students to develop their employability skills.  I teach in this area and have shared good practice by presenting at conferences.

I am a member of the Social Policy Association and AdvanceHE.
