Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 1993, I worked for some 13 years in a variety of marketing roles for blue chip companies including Black and Decker, Sodastream and Sanyo Electronics.
I studied for a BA (Hons) Joint French and German at the University of Bristol and in later life, I became a part time PhD student at the University of Reading, graduating in 2001.
My scholarly interests include the internationalisation of Higher Education, management of internationalisation in universities, and university branding. All of these issues have become even more important to universities since I completed by PhD, as higher education takes place in a competitive global market. I also hold a Postgraduate Diploma of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
I spent ten years as a member of the Board of Maidenhead and District Housing Association, now Housing Solutions, which helped me to understand – and contribute to – how marketing techniques can be applied in a ‘not for profit’ environment.
I have been privileged to work with not just students in the UK, but students with our partner institutions around the world. This provides first-hand experience of working with different cultures, feeding naturally into my teaching of International Marketing.
