Ed Booth's story

Ed Booth, a first year BSc (Hons) Air Transport with Commercial Pilot Training student, recently shared with us how his first year of studying with BNU has been for him.

“As can be imagined, an aviation degree combined with flight training is a unique offering and BNU is one of only three universities that offer something like this. There are a few reasons why I chose to go to university and get a degree as opposed to going down the conventional integrated route for pilot training: BNU’s employability focus, getting the university experience and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the aviation industry. And so far, I’m loving my time here and it’s ticking ever box I wanted it to!"

There were also further reasons why Ed decided that BNU was the right fit for him and stood out above the rest.

I loved the community feel to the University. The smaller scale makes the learning much more personal, meaning there is a fantastic support network that you don’t always get at larger institutions.

“Furthermore, the facilities and fabulous lecturers really make this a great place to study aviation – all of my lecturers are qualified commercial pilots meaning they have a really in-depth understanding and knowledge of the industry and help prepare us to be ‘professional pilots’ of the future.”

After choosing BNU, being offered a place and getting the grades, it was time for Ed to move down to High Wycombe and start his studies.

“Although I was somewhat excited, when I first came down to BNU after travelling a long way from home, I was rather scared. However, within around just two hours of meeting my flatmates and going out on the first night, I already felt right at home. My accommodation at Hughenden Park is ideal, as its close to beautiful countryside, and just walking distance from the University.

My entire welcome week at BNU was nothing short of perfect. I felt safe and comfortable and that there was someone to talk to for any type of issue I may have had. The freshers fair and course introduction was great, and my first flight at my PPL school really made me realise, I am in the perfect place for what I want to do, and I can’t wait for the next three years here!”
