A typical week as a BA (Hons) Marketing student

A typical week as a BA (Hons) Marketing student

Join me as I go through an average week in the life of a first year Marketing student. I’ll be mentioning both my university academic life but also all the extra activities I take part in.

Monday

On Monday first thing I do is attend the 9am principles of marketing lesson which lasts 3 hours. After this I get lunch on the walk back to halls before writing up my notes. Then I’ll take a little break and perhaps read a book or watch a series. After I’ll do the homework set from the earlier lesson to aid my final assessment. Monday is the musical theatre society's day to meet and so I’ll walk back to uni in order to get stuck into the week’s activities such as learning a dance, singing some karaoke or learning a piece for the Christmas lights show.

Tuesday

Tuesdays for me are always quite packed from start to finish. I have two modules this day, starting with consumer psychology in the IT suite from 9am till 12pm. In the break between this lesson and the graduate challenge module at 3pm I take a singing lesson with one of the university’s singing teachers for free with the Students’ Union scheme. In graduate challenge we get given tasks to improve our business and academic skills. Then straight after this I practise for upcoming games with my Netball team. I return to halls around 9.30pm where I eat and then fall asleep almost immediately. 😂

Wednesday

Wednesdays are my midday break where I like to catch up with grocery shopping, laundry and university work especially for the previous day’s lectures and seminars. This is also game day for the sports teams, so any games are played from 12pm onwards. However, what I enjoy about this day is that it’s frat night which means that all societies and sports teams hold a social usually from 9pm where you can play drinking games (non-alcoholic if you wish) and get to know your teammates outside of the sport or society. Later in the night I usually head down to the SU venue where I continue to socialise, dance and drink until late.

Thursday

After the previous night a late start of an 11am lecture for global business environment is appreciated. In this lesson I am able to bring forward my thoughts on current related business news whilst being taught the basics for this module. This lesson ends at 2pm so I have a little while before coming back to campus for cheer. As part of the BNU Swans I take part in Pom and all-star cheer from 6pm - 10pm. These training sessions are always very fun (the uniforms are also stunning).

Friday

As I have nothing to do on Fridays, I’ll usually use this as another catch up day for any work, chores or to plan in times to meet with my personal tutor that the university has allocated for any queries I may have. Occasionally I’ll use this day for fun activities like going into London to watch a musical since we have a direct 30-minute line into London. Overall this day is a nice breather from a busy week.

Saturday & Sunday

On Saturdays I have work which helps aid my funds for university as a student loan is not always enough. So for most of the day I’m in the Swan Theatre box office taking phone calls or ticketing. The same applies for Sunday as well. I always make sure to end the day early for a good night’s sleep before another jam-packed week.

I’m also a Student Ambassador so every now and then I’ll have shifts to show people round the university on Open Days.

I hope this gives you a little idea of uni life, not every week is the same, but it’s defiantly an adventure!
