Biography
  • Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2025, I built a diverse and rewarding career as a Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist. Over the course of my career, I have consistently sought to empower students, professionals, and families through evidence-based practice, innovative interventions, and compassionate service. My clinical background has afforded me the opportunity to work across various settings including schools, the NHS and specialized clinics, where I have developed and implemented personalized therapy plans to help individuals lead more independent lives. I founded The Octopational Therapist, a bespoke therapy service where I continue to practice on a part-time basis and delivering a range of services including sensory integration therapy and sensory attachment informed therapy for children. I have also had the opportunity to mentor and supervise students, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and provide tailored training to support the integration of sensory integration principles across environments.

In addition to my clinical experience, I have created and delivered online courses for parents, carers, and teachers, focusing on the practical application of sensory integration and occupational therapy principles. I am passionate about sharing knowledge in accessible, engaging ways and believe strongly in the importance of lifelong learning. As a result, I am eager to contribute to the academic community by teaching and mentoring students in occupational therapy programs, helping to cultivate the next generation of skilled, compassionate practitioners.

I hold an MSc in Sensory Integration from Ulster University (2020) and a BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy from the University of Southampton (2011). My specialist area of interest is sensory integration and sensory attachment intervention, which I find particularly compelling because it bridges neuroscience, psychology, and occupational therapy to support individuals in achieving greater independence and emotional regulation, especially for those with complex needs.

I am a member of the British Association of Occupational Therapists and specialist interest groups. My expertise has led me to collaborate with organisations including Sensory Integration Education, where I contribute to the academic development of future therapists by marking Master’s-level assignments and providing detailed feedback.

Throughout my career, I have led a number of impactful projects. These include supporting in the design and delivery of a sensory circuits training programme for schools, creating culturally inclusive therapy resources to support families from diverse backgrounds, developing whole-school occupational therapy curriculums and designing sensory-friendly environments. I also played a key role in designing sensory integration therapy rooms using both my knowledge of sensory integration theory and a trauma-informed sensory attachment principles into educational environments.

My greatest accolade to date is founding The Octopational Therapist, a venture that has allowed me to combine clinical expertise, education, and consultancy to make a meaningful impact on families, schools, and professionals. This work has not only deepened my commitment to inclusive, evidence-based practice but also inspired my transition into academia, where I am excited to contribute to the development of the next generation of occupational therapists.
