The course is shaped by their clinical practice and informed by the latest in sports therapy research, giving you access to the most relevant, up-to-date skills.

In addition to our Sports and Wellbeing Clinic, we also have a Human Performance Lab, a facility designed to test and research the human body. It has been designed to enhance athletes performance through data analysis and can be used to develop the most effective strength and conditioning regime for different body types. Our Gateway Gym is where you can get personalised help and advice from our specialist trainers as well as use a range of fitness equipment, with great student membership rates. 

At BNU, you can get involved in competitive sport or just play for fun. Thanks to the Students’ Union’s Big Deal, all sports clubs and student society activities are completely free. You can meet new people, take part in sports and make friends for life.

You won’t just be stuck in a classroom. You’ll be learning how to assess injuries, perform treatments, and apply techniques that you’ll use in the real world. Plus, there are loads of opportunities for placements and live clinic work, which gives you a real feel for working with clients and athletes early on.

What will I study?

On our Society of Sports Therapists (SST) accredited degree, we'll help you gain the skills and experience you need to become a successful sports therapist. We’ll guide you through the entire process of sports therapy, including injury prevention, assessment, therapeutic treatments, and exercise rehabilitation, preparing you to return clients to fitness and performance safely and effectively. You’ll cover areas such as:

  • human anatomy, biomechanics, and physiology
  • injury assessment, treatment techniques, and rehabilitation
  • therapeutic interventions and hands-on clinical skills
  • exercise science and recovery programming.

We’ll also help you develop the skills to work in private practice or as a freelance sports therapist, including business awareness and client communication.

The three years on the course have been an amazing journey - the best part has been the hands-on practice you’re constantly exposed to throughout practical lessons and placements.

How will I be taught and assessed?

Blending academic theory with practical experience, we keep your learning relevant and engaging.

We use a mix of assessments that reflect industry expectations, including:

  • work-related assessments with evidence of achievements in practice.

BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy Programme Specification

What are the course entry requirements?

A typical offer will require a UCAS tariff score of: 112 - 136 (Full-time) or 32 - 56 (Foundation Year)

UCAS points can be obtained through qualifications such as A levels, T levels, BTEC or an Access to Higher Education course in a relevant subject. Please list all your qualifications on the application form as you will be asked to provide copies when we receive your application.

Qualifications will also need to include a pass in one of the following subjects; Physical Education, Sports Studies or Science (Human Biology or similar).

You will also need GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or above and a minimum of two full A-levels (or equivalent) is required. Please list all your qualifications on the application form as you will be asked to provide copies when we receive your application.

Every application is considered on an individual basis. If you do not have the necessary entry requirements, then please still apply and you may be invited by the course team to attend an online or face to face interview (which is compulsory) to discuss your application and to ascertain your suitability for the course including your individual motivation and interests and whether BNU is right for you.

You will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check as part of the application process.

All successful applicants will be invited to attend (attendance is optional) an Applicant Visit Afternoon where you will meet the course team and find out more information about the course and teaching.

Those with no previous study, work experience, or who do not meet the specified entry requirements, including demonstrating the necessary knowledge and understanding, are welcome to apply for the 3-year BSc (Hons) degree, however may be offered the four-year programme which includes a Foundation Year.

Please note all of the 2026/27 academic year fees stated are subject to parliamentary procedure. Tuition fees are expected to increase each academic year in line with the maximum permitted value set by the Government for that academic year. The expected rise for Home undergraduate students (including those on a foundation year course), may impact both new and continuing students.

Your tuition fees cover most course costs, but you may need to budget for additional expenses. These can include specialist equipment, project materials, professional memberships, field trips or placements, as well as everyday student costs like printing, books and stationery.

Career Prospects

We’re here to support you into a successful and fulfilling career. After graduating, you’ll be qualified to work in a range of roles, including:

  • sports therapist in professional teams, clubs or private clinics
  • exercise rehabilitation specialist
  • injury prevention adviser
  • physiotherapy assistant

You’ll also have gained the training you need to work in professional sport therapy context within football and rugby. 
Alternatively, you may choose to further your studies at postgraduate level in areas, such as:

  • sports medicine
  • physiotherapy
  • sports science and performance analysis.

With the practical experience, confidence, and clinical skills gained on our course, you’ll be well prepared for your future career in the rewarding sports therapy profession.

The support I received from all members of staff was brilliant. They always seemed to have your best interest at heart and always wanted to help. The opportunities Sports Therapy provided were great. You had loads of different placements to choose from such as clinical placements to working with different sports team.
