This Master of Public Health (MPH) course is designed to empower individuals currently working in, or aspiring to enter public health careers, including practitioners, health professionals, and those in the voluntary, community, and social enterprise (VCSE) sector to a new level.

What will I study?

Our programme provides an in-depth understanding of global public health concepts, theories, and principles, with a strong emphasis on public health practice. It encourages you to adopt an international as well as national perspective and critically examine public health issues. 

Some of the topics you will study include:  

  • development of entrepreneurial and leadership skills.
  • project work, in which you will gain expertise in environmental health, and health policy. 
  • undertaking research projects, honing skills in research formulation.
  • design, implement, and present research findings.
  • conceptual and theoretical understanding of public health concepts.
  • applying theoretical concepts and ideas to real world problems.
  • reflect on the impact of current public health programmes and initiatives.
  • study how to affect a positive societal change and impact global healthcare. 

This programme is ideal for those aspiring to roles in government agencies, non-profit organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and healthcare institutions.

How will I be taught and assessed?

The teaching and learning strategies employed within this programme will reflect the nature of the skills required for employment in the field of public health. You will be encouraged to develop independent learning skills and abilities to stay abreast of the latest developments in local and global public health.

What are the course entry requirements?

The University’s general entry requirements will apply to admission to this programme, with applicants typically having a minimum of a 2.2 degree in a relevant field (e.g. science; social science; life sciences; social care; health care, allied health). 

If you do not meet the entry requirements you may, if you have relevant professional experience, still be invited to undertake the course, where you will be required to demonstrate the necessary knowledge and understanding for entry onto the course.

Previous study, professional and / or vocational experiences may be recognised as the equivalent learning experience and permit exemption from studying certain modules in accordance with our accreditation of prior learning (APL) process.

  • Home, Academic Year 2025 - 2026: £10,990 per year *
International
  • Overseas/International, Academic Year 2026 - 2027: £16,280 per year *
  • Overseas/International, Academic Year 2025 - 2026: £15,550 per year *

Please note all of the 2026/27 academic year fees stated are subject to parliamentary procedure. Tuition fees are expected to increase each academic year in line with the maximum permitted value set by the Government for that academic year. The expected rise for Home undergraduate students (including those on a foundation year course), may impact both new and continuing students.

Your tuition fees cover most course costs, but you may need to budget for additional expenses. These can include specialist equipment, project materials, professional memberships, field trips or placements, as well as everyday student costs like printing, books and stationery.
