Our music production and business course spans a total of three years and includes a wide range of modules for students to choose depending on their career aspirations. These optional modules cover a wide range skills and topics both from the music business and music production side of the course. Students can choose this pathway from the second year as your music production degree branches into three different pathways, so you won’t have to study business before you join this pathway of the course.
It doesn’t matter if you didn’t study business or music production, our course has been made with modules for experienced and unexperienced students in the industry. No matter what the level of knowledge students come into the course with, they always graduate with new skills, ideas and a degree in music production and business. At BNU we don’t want to repel potential students, meaning once you get the required grades, we accept students with all experiences, no portfolio or work experience needed! Perhaps you could bring a different approach than others to the course.

First and foremost, all our music facilities are industry standard, will all the tools you need to craft your skills and build your portfolio. Throughout your time studying you will get to learn the ins and outs of each studio. Studios one and three use digital mixing desks, the Avid S6 console. This allows students to mix and master their recordings in Dolby Atoms and most importantly practice using industry standard consoles making the transition easier for them to when they leave university. Studio two uses the Audient ASP 8024 hybrid of both digital and analogue equipment. This comes with some of the best hardware in the industry giving students a chance to use analogue gear as well. All three studios come with the latest digital plugins and industry standard microphones. We want to give our students the best experience possible at BNU! This is also the case for our edit suits, a smaller space for students to complete work if the recording studios are busy. These edit suits are all equipped with the Avid S3.
Our facilities give students time to practice using a range of equipment preparing them for their assignments, personal music products, but most importantly their music career. If you want to jump straight into the music industry using industry standard equipment, then studying music production and business at BNU is the perfect first step on your career pathway. They will also explain the problems you are facing encouraging you to learn to fix the issue should it happen again. This again will help you to solve more problems in your place of work in the industry as at BNU you have grown to become a problem-solving audio engineer. Music Production Lectures
As a music production and business student your lectures will either be in the music studios or in classrooms/lecture theatres. On the music production side your lectures will almost always be in the music studios where you will be taught by our amazing lecturers practically. You will get to collaborate with your fellow students on the course and other music courses like songwriting and performance students. If you want a practical, hands-on course that you can learn the skills you need while you are creating music this is definitely a reason to study music production and business at BNU. Practical learners will fit right in on this course where almost ever every lecture on the music side of the course is spent learning new skills and improving them in and outside of lecture time.
Business Lectures
The business modules offer the chance to learn more about the industry you will be moving into. Our lecturers focus on preparing students to move into the music industry with confidence, offering their personal professional insight helping to guide students through the course with an expert understanding of the music business world. They offer expert advice and can help you with any current business ventures you already have. All our lecturers are approachable and will give you the best support possible if you are struggling with essays and assignments. Don’t worry, our business lectures are not just writing essays and taking notes. At BNU we often collaborate and discuss ideas in our lectures/seminars offering group work and projects to help students expand their business knowledge. Our modules are also packed with great opportunities for students to build their portfolio: with chances to manage and run their own event hosted by the Bucks Student Union and many other opportunities to work with your peers to help jumpstart your career experience in the industry. Just like the music production side of our course you and fellow students can collaborate on assignments and personal project expanding your business network. You never know what could happen.
All of lecturers on both sides of this course have active experience in their field and are active professionals, for example producers, A&R experts, tour managers, and entrepreneurs. At BNU we encourage our lecturers to bring their real-world experience straight into the classroom. This helps us to rise above other universities and attracts students to our courses. Also, unlike other universities because our lecturers are still in their field of work, they give students recent updates and what is happening currently in the music industry to give our students the most recent knowledge possible.
