Opportunities I have had on the Audio and Music Production course

While being at Bucks I have had a wide range of opportunities to develop my skills, in a variety of different audio industries through the Audio and Music Production course.

I have had the opportunity to work on pieces such as student films, with artists who wanted to record, as well as on football related programs. All of this was done using equipment provided by Media Resources at the University.

One of my most memorable opportunities was to go with a team of video and audio students to a local football club to capture the match, similar to how you would see one on the TV. Another football related programme which I had the opportunity to work on was the Watford football club’s Hornets and Our Family programmes which were recorded in the television studios at the University. This was done by combining skills learnt in the sound for vision module and live sound modules.

Another great experience I had was recording the BBC Introducing content in the TV studios alongside the students. The recorded audio was edited in post-production before being sent over to the director and then uploaded to the respective channels.

This was done using the skills learnt in the live audio module’s using the Berringer x32 sound desk and pro tools and then the skills gained in the studio production module for the editing of the tracks. This experience has been useful especially during Covid as I have had to assist in recording a band so that they can go online during this time.

As part of the second year module ‘Sound for Vision’ there is an assignment which requires working with the Film and Television Production students on a film, capturing the audio and adding effects to the final picture lock. This is done by communicating within a team to ensure all the sounds which are needed are captured either on set or in post-production. As this was an assignment for both groups of students there were deadlines which had to be met to allow the project to be finished on time.

A similar project was undertaken with Creative Advertising students and Performance students studying at Bucks. The sound and dialogue were recorded, and then in editing the effects were added to help create a location for the listener as there was no visual counterpart giving us further industry experience.
