Why choose BNU to study Music Business?

Why choose BNU to study Music Business?

My name is Lauren and I am about to become a third-year student at BNU, doing Music Business BA. I thought I would share my thoughts on why my course experience has been so good so far!

Firstly, I applied to 5 different universities, as I am sure many reading this will be doing now. The course at this university immediately stood out to me, due to the range of modules covered across the three years. I found other universities had too much business and not enough music, or too much music and not enough business! It was clear that the lecturers at BNU had perfected this course after so many years of running it and could offer me the best education I needed to eventually succeed in the music industry. There are modules on artist development and law, all the way through to marketing, fan cultures, and practical modules in event planning/management.

There is also an opportunity in second year to do placement at a publishing company, which I was lucky enough to get this year. It was incredible to see first-hand how the industry interacts with itself and the experience I gained working directly inside an esteemed company for 10 weeks was unmatched!

The lecturers I have had during my degree have also been amazing. Every teacher in the music department has had first hand experience in the industry, some of which remain actively working in it alongside lecturing. This means that their knowledge is beyond that of what they teach, and they are happy to help you in anything beyond the course – including career assistance and guidance in finding connections in the business. In addition, there are regular industry panels hosted by the department to allow students to make connections with leading professionals, many of which are BNU alumni!

There are many chances throughout the course for collaboration between students. Students on Music Business will work with their peers on the other music courses in event planning and performance, and many modules and projects across the 3 years. It has helped create a strong community between us all which has been so helpful supportively and academically.

In my opinion, BNU is an excellent choice for studying Music Business. The music department’s enthusiasm to help students grow into confident, industry-ready professionals has seen success in countless alumni. I am really liking my degree and I’m confident that the knowledge I have gained here will assist me significantly in years to come!
