Things to consider before starting uni

Things to consider before starting uni

Thinking about starting university? Not sure what to take into consideration? Is it all a bit overwhelming? Well don’t worry! In this blog, we are going to be taking a look at just a handful of the things (4 exactly) that you should think about before joining uni in order to make your enrolment, moving in, and general university experience, as enjoyable and stress free as possible. This blog should give you a good starting point to then begin making those all and important final decisions.

Course

Number one, your course. Where do you begin? Well, I suggest you have a good hard think about what it is you really enjoy and are good at. Find something that gets you really excited and enthusiastic, those will tend to line up with the things you're good at too! Deciding on the correct course will really help you to decide which university to apply to, as when you read the course specifications, certain courses will seem more interesting to you than other courses!

Career Paths

Number two, possible career paths following on from your course. Does your course help you get to where you want to go in the future? Over the course of your university time, your ideal career will change and evolve, alongside everyone else's, but it’s important for your course to take you in that general direction!

Schedule

Number three, a schedule! Now I am aware it's hard to put together a schedule when you don’t know your timetable, but it's something to keep in the back of your mind for when you do. There are a multitude of reasons a schedule is important for your time at university, they allow you to keep a work/fun balance. There are two reasons people go to university, to study and to have fun, so keeping a balance between the two is really important! Also, having a routine is great for mental health, especially when you're moving to university as it’s a lot of change.

Budget

Number four, budget! Something to have a good think about is how you're going to budget everything. Here are a few things to think about when considering this. Rent, food, money for going out, clothes, and course materials. The reason it’s so important to budget your money is because there will be unexpected costs that you may not think about, like the holding fee for your next academic year's accommodation. So, create yourself a budget, and try to stick to it, It will really help you out long term!
