Perks of being a Creative and digital industries student at BNU

There are so many perks to being part of the Creative and Digital Industries school here at Buckinghamshire New University. It’ll be tough but I’m going to narrow it down to my top three benefits that I think studying a music and media course at BNU has.

Facilities

Inside Buckinghamshire New University, we have state-of-the-art, professional industry facilities where you can not only learn during lectures, but also book out the space so you can refine your skills in your private time. BNU has three main studios for music production, each with live rooms filled with equipment, from guitars to drum-kits to amplifiers and mics.

On top of that there are six editing suites that are kitted out with the latest equipment, including synths, drum machines and more. BNU also has an incredible film suite with lighting, green screens, cameras for hire (for FREE) and more.

Work experience

Another massive benefit to studying a creative and digital course at BNU is work experience opportunities. The creative departments have great industry connections that enable you to access a wide range of work experience opportunities during your time at BNU. All music and production students are offered the chance to help set up and assist the running of some of the biggest music festivals in the UK, including Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds, Wireless, Download and many more.

The creative departments at BNU are also sponsored by Focusrite, an English music and media giant that is based just around the corner, in High Wycombe. The University also creates a wide range of occasions for students to showcase their talents, including playing live gigs at music venues, getting involved with dance shows, organising your own events and so much more.

Around High Wycombe, there are a range of venues that encourage students to perform, including BNU’s very own Students’ Union - a great place to start getting involved and apply what you have been learning on your course.

Lectures and Lecturers

A big perk to studying a creative course at BNU is the lectures and lecturers. Most of the creative lectures are practical which is great for those who find academia hard (I know I do…). The lectures are so much fun, they are interactive, experimental and really have a relaxed environment around them.

This relaxed feel is generated by the lecturers that teach in the school. They’re all incredibly friendly and genuinely want you to succeed and will encourage you to push yourself out of your comfort zone whilst supporting you along the way.
