Ava Shabnum Hasan

Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2021, I had founded an organisation called Mentally Well Schools, providing evidence-informed programmes and CPD training to improve mental health and wellbeing in schools in the UK and abroad.

Years prior to this, I studied for a BSc at the LSE, after which I completed a PGCE. I then spent 18 years working in schools in the UK and internationally, including becoming a SENDCo and Senior Leader in two successive primary schools, one in the state sector and one independent. I have completed a range of professional development training related to mental health and wellbeing, on topics including mindfulness, trauma, attachment difficulties and suicide. I have also completed 1 year of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills training.

I am currently studying for a Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy at a university in London.

My specialist areas of interest are childhood trauma and adversity, and evidence-based approaches to mitigate their effects.
