BNU 'University of the Year for South East' at Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2025
Buckinghamshire New University has been announced as 'University of the Year for the South East' following a rise to 17th across the whole UK, having performed strongly across multiple categories in this year’s Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCA), the leading higher education awards ceremony based solely on student choice.
This year, BNU has placed strongly in regional categories, including:
6th for SU (1st in southeast)
19th in UK for careers prospects (2nd in southeast)
9th for lecturers and teaching quality (2nd in southeast)
8th for student support (2nd in southeast)
2nd in southeast for student life
Facilities 22nd (1st in southeast)
Each year, the WUSCA team receives approximately 35,000 verified reviews from on-campus visits across the country and online submissions via the whatuni.com website.
Together with representatives from WhatUni, the Marketing team and Student Ambassadors travelled BNU’s corridors and classrooms to gather hundreds of student testimonials.
Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Paul Morgan said: "It is fantastic to see BNU colleagues and the Students’ Union recognised for their commitment to students at these national awards. We have some real excellence in our approaches to student support, and programme teams who are creating effective learning environments which have been recognised by the shortlist. We are particularly proud of the range of categories we have been recognised for – from student life and Students’ Union to career prospects.
"Well done to all those who were shortlisted. We look forward to learning from these successes to develop and strengthen provision across the institution to ensure all our students get the best possible educational experience."
Bucks Students’ Union’s Chief Executive Officer Tristan Tipping said: “It’s always rewarding to be acknowledged at the What Uni Student Choice Awards as it’s driven by feedback directly from our members, the students of BNU. It’s our 9th consecutive year on the shortlist and we were once again amongst great company. I’m pleased for our team that their efforts are recognised, and much like our positive performance in the NSS, it’s the consistency of the results, year in, year out, that’s so pleasing.
“We were happy to see the university recognised in the Student Support and Teaching categories. If your students believe you have high quality teaching, offer great support and have a strong students’ union, then you’re probably an institution that’s getting a fair amount right!”
The WUSCAs are the only annual awards that are based solely on the views of real students studying in the UK and allow students to access honest, unbiased data to make the right choices about their future on the Whatuni platform.
