My BNU story: BA (Hons) Graphic Design
My BNU story: BA (Hons) Graphic Design
Why did you decide to study at Buckinghamshire New University (BNU)?
I decided to study BA (Hons) Graphic Design at BNU due to the smaller class sizes. As someone who was anxious about the University experience, it was important to me that I did not feel overwhelmed from the start. Here at BNU the class sizes are smaller and each individual student is supported however much they need to be.
Thanks to this, my professional and personal development has skyrocketed allowing me to become more confident, independent as well as skilled in my area of studies. Moreover, it has enabled me to form deeper and more affirmative relationships with my tutors but also my peers as everyone knows everyone and it forms a sort of community.
What makes your course right for you?
As someone who has always been creative, I knew from quite young that I wanted to do a creative and art-based course. However, one thing that I feel my work has always lacked is intention which causes it to lack conviction. Graphic design allows me to follow my passion of art but also enforces me to spread a message through visuals.
What do you love most about BNU?
The standout factor of BNU, for me, is the quality of facilities. As I’ve said, I’m someone who loves art and design. In a modern day like now everything is going digital, however, here at BNU the Red Shed allows me to get dirty and still physically work on art. From screen printing to laser cutting to etching, the Red Shed and art facilities are state of the art including an operating Victorian Age Letterpress machine.
What do you love most about your course?
One thing I love about my course is the collaboration. There is frequent collaboration between Graphic Design and Illustration as well as shared modules with Creative Advertising. The collaborative aspect means that the studio really feels like a studio.
Moreover, the opportunity to work with real life clients is amazing. Thanks to BNU, I’ve personally had the opportunity to work with Wycombe Wanderers FC on their social media matchday Graphics which is a big learning opportunity and great exposure for the future.
What would you say to anyone considering study at BNU?
The difference between BNU and other Universities is that it truly feels like a community. The vast range of societies and schemes means there’s a friendly face around every corner. It also means that the transition from previous studies is smooth which helps reduce the worries.
What’s your BNU proud moment?
My BNU proudest moment is when I had the opportunity to share my Graphics on Wycombe Wanderers Instagram page which has over 131,000 followers and is verified. The two separate posts I have had used amounted around 2,000 likes in total and Wycombe have expressed an interest in having an ongoing relationship with me. This is all thanks to the development and skills I’ve had the pleasure of gaining here at BNU.
