Inclusion, Diversity and Disability

Buckinghamshire New University is here to assist you in getting the most out of your time in an inclusive learning environment. BNU is glad to talk about unique requirements at any point of your application or while you're studying. They are always on hand if you want to get specific information. Our staff at BNU can also help you apply for Disabled Students' Allowances (DSAs) and conduct dyslexia assessments. If you have a handicap, you must register with them in order to get the reasonable adjustments to which you are entitled.

I have a physical disability that isn't visible, and I was worried that I wouldn't get the help I needed when I got to university, but I put in special requests for a downstairs bedroom in my accommodation due to mobility restrictions, and I was placed in the first flat on the ground floor. I have always felt supported and taken care of here at BNU.

Financial support

To assist students, BNU provides a variety of scholarships and bursaries. Based on personal circumstances, household income, or academic success, these scholarships give financial assistance. You will not have to pay back any bursaries and scholarships, but they do have different qualifying requirements that you should examine before applying. The Advice Centre is available to provide unbiased help and advice on a wide range of financial difficulties.

There are scholarships and bursaries available at undergraduate, postgraduate and international levels, so don’t worry there is help out there for everyone. Examples of what we have on offer include: Care Leaver Bursary, Estranged Student Bursary, Gypsy Roma, Traveller, Showmen and Boater (GRTSB) Bursary.

For international and postgraduate students there are options available for financial assistance through postgraduate loans, tuition fee loans, bursaries and scholarship programmes.

We also provide scholarships and bursaries to international students to assist with the costs of studying in the United Kingdom. Check out our section on scholarships and bursaries on our website to discover if any are available to you and how to apply. You can also contact Student Finance to see if you qualify for support for your study depending on your specific circumstances.

Health and well-being

It is critical to look after your physical health as well as your mental health and welfare throughout your education. There may be occasions when you feel the need for assistance in order to get the most out of your time at BNU. The University has a Student Hub where you can access advice and support and has online resources on health and wellbeing that you can access any time of the day.

Last year was a particularly trying time for me, and I sought help from the university's counselling service. I had six sessions with a wonderful woman who listened as I spoke about things I had never shared with anyone before, and it felt good to get it off my chest. Even though you may believe that getting your work done is your top priority, it is actually yourself.

Student Hub

At BNU, we have a team of friendly employees that have been trained to handle a variety of student inquiries. They give important information and assistance on a variety of university services. They can provide you with information and access to student records, as well as the University's advising and assistance services, which you may require throughout your stay at BNU.

The Student hub can help you with different things such as letter requests, change of address forms and references among other things. Every year I ask the student hub to write a letter confirming my education and my term and home address for occasions such as reapplying for the doctors or getting into a dentist.

The Ambassador Platform

I was appointed as a Digital Ambassador for BNU at the end of November 2021. Our main job is that we are all on The Ambassador Platform chat function you can find on the website. I've always been a very approachable person, and I can say the same for the rest of the digital ambassadors. Any question we're asked, we take it seriously and go out of our way to help you the best we can. If we're unclear of what you're trying to ask, we'll locate someone who can.

You can talk to specific staff or the teams here at BNU for guidance and support on all your questions.
