Before joining Buckinghamshire New University full time in 2023, I was an associate lecturer at while working as a district nurse team manager and practice assessor.
I qualified as an RN from University College Hospital in 1988. I then worked in hospitals until 1990 when I joined community nursing. I have worked as a RN, district nurse team manager, specialist community practice teacher, practice supervisor and assessor and a general practice nurse until I partially retired in December 2020. I returned to practice and worked part time as a district nurse, supporting across the community teams also supporting newly qualified nurses and providing personal development support for other individuals within the teams until May 2025 when I finally retired from the NHS after 40 years as a nurse.
I was honoured to be awarded the Queen’s Nursing Award in 2013. I have also been an active member of the RCN DN and Community Nurse Forum Steering Group for the past 7 years and have been Chair for the last two years. I am a QNI Leader, which has encouraged me to widen my influence and use my voice. I gained a PGCE in Practice Education and am currently working towards a master’s in education as I wanted to further develop my teaching skills. I now work as part of the Community Nursing Team as a Senior Lecturer.
