My MA in Film from the RoyaI College of Art led to the start of my Television career at ITV/Granada in Manchester in the Comedy department where I Produced and Directed shows with Steve Coogan, Caroline Aherne and Vic Reeves and many other comedians. At Granada I trained as a studio Director directing comedy shows as well as working with Tony Wilson of Factory Records on music and arts programmes.
After ITV I went into the movie business and formed a production company, Devotion Films, to make a feature film with the distributors of Lord of the Rings. I wrote and Directed a feature film with Johnny Vegas with a £3 million pound budget.
I went on to work in the BBC’s Entertainment Department and the Music Department in BBC TV Centre Producing and Directing feature length documentaries such as The Story of Light Entertainment, The Secret Life of Bob Monkhouse, Morecambe and Wise: The Whole Story and Not Again: Not The Nine O’clock News. I also Produced the country music documentary The Joy of Country for BBC2.
For Channel 4 I Produced and directed Tommy Cooper: The Untold Story, Home Front Heroes and Winnie the Pooh at 90. Along the way I have interviewed hundreds of famous names including Alice Cooper, Princess Anne, Dolly Parton, Rowan Atkinson, Boris Johnson and Damien Hirst.
Teaching screenwriting, acting, film making, Television Studio production, cameras, post production and Production Design has included spells at University of Salford, University of Bedfordshire, London Met, University of Westminster, Ravensbourne University and University of Northampton.
I now teach Film and Television Production including Virtual Production and Multi camera TV studio production at the High Wycombe campus.
