Exploring the global landscape of careers in hospitality

The latest in our inaugural lecture series will explore how social structures, individual dispositions and institutional practices influence careers in hospitality - and seek to explain why roles are valued so differently around the world.

The second of our current series, Global Variations in Hospitality Careers: A Bourdieuian Perspective, delivered by Professor Lisa Wyld, will draw on key concepts of habitus, capital and field to show how these forces intersect to influence professional journeys in hospitality, from entry-level roles to senior leadership.

Professor Wyld is Associate Dean (Education) in the College of Leadership and Innovation at Buckinghamshire New University and has made significant contributions to the development of hospitality education and research. She is Honorary Secretary for the Council for Hospitality Management Education and track chair for Teaching, Learning and Assessment on its scientific committee; a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality; and a Principal Fellow of AdvanceHE.

She also co-founded Hospitality and Universities United (HUU), an initiative that brings together universities, students and industry partners to help ‘bridge the gap’ between academic learning, students’ ambitions and the evolving needs of the hospitality sector.

Join us from 4pm on 3 December in BNU's Gateway Lecture Theatre. If you would like to attend, please register your attendance here. Everyone is welcome and lectures are free.

Inaugural lectures celebrate the research excellence and professional achievements of our academic staff and mark the conferment of the titles of Professor or Associate Professor. They provide an opportunity for colleagues, partners, students and members of the wider community to come together to recognise these accomplishments.

Each event is recorded and can be viewed in the series link on the bucks.ac.uk/inaugural-lecture-series.
