Building a better BNU: New development passes halfway mark

Buckinghamshire New University’s exciting estate development, which will see the High Wycombe Campus become a modern and vibrant hub for students and staff, has passed the halfway mark.

The groundworks are now complete, and the areas formerly known as the Rose Garden and creative workshops are being transformed ahead of expected completion before the next academic year starts in September.

A new Atrium, Refectory, Student Hub, Winter Garden and Roof Garden have been designed with a robust thread of accessibility, community and student wellbeing spun throughout.

The multi-million investment into student experience has seen all building contractors sourced locally, supporting the community we are proud to be a part of. Beautiful and sustainable green spaces with natural light will be created for everyone at the University to be happy and comfortable in.

The spaces on campus for students to study and socialise in are going to improve considerably and we can’t wait for them to see and experience their new surroundings.

Era of evolution and prosperity

The development signifies a new era of evolution and prosperity for BNU, which has seen record growth over the past five years as the institution continues its mission to provide the best possible student experience, and to become a civic university with community and lifelong skills at its core.

The project broke ground in the summer of 2022 and is being undertaken alongside contractors MARIS and Fulkers who have led on design, construction and logistical management.

Trevor Gabriele, Chief Finance Officer, said: “The development has just passed the halfway point and there is increasing anticipation and excitement among our student and staff communities.”

“The spaces on campus for students to study and socialise in are going to improve considerably and we can’t wait for them to see and experience their new surroundings.”

Construction in the Rose Garden has been documented by a time-lapse video over the past few months. The foundational stage of the project, which is documented in the video, has now reached completion, and the outward appearance of the development will progress quickly hereafter.

The University looks forward to welcoming the local community into the new development later in 2023.
