Life skills I've gained at BNU
Critical Thinking and Problem-solving
As a student at BNU, I was able to develop my Critical Thinking and Problem-solving skills. These skills were developed by understanding how and why reasonable judgements and questioning conclusions are important and should be conducted, especially as a student. Therefore, I’ve learnt that I ought to know how to differentiate and evaluate all sources to review their authenticity and credibility, which would ultimately improve my overall grades.
Communication
As a Psychology and Criminology student I am involved in report writing, article writing etc. In addition, corresponding with tutors and lecturers has greatly improved my communication. Therefore, BNU has helped me improve my virtual interactions and face-to-face moments also.
Time management
I learnt that I ought to be confident and not in fear of my work being judged, as this links to procrastination. I’ve understood the benefits of weekly planners and diaries and how they can be used to enhance my time management skills. This can be useful to me as a student, whereby I’d be setting my goals correctly and prioritizing wisely to ensure that all my assignments are submitted on time. Therefore, these skills gained will help me to persevere and complete tasks, overcome any fears that may be present, use written planners and take the initiative to produce all tasks with confidence and certainty.
Budgeting and money management
As a student at BNU, I was able to develop my Budgeting and money management skills. I have learnt how to manage my money between bills and maintenance as a student from foundation year welcome talks and the student hub. This also projects me as being responsible and trustworthy, which are positive traits that would be of interest to an employer. Therefore, I would not have any financial worries that could distract me from my studies.
