The Big Deal

The Big Deal

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a part of a university that offers a FREE range of activities for all students? Do you crave more opportunities to build long-term friendships, your confidence and your skills through educational workshops? Did you know that this can all be fulfilled right here at Buckinghamshire New University? Let’s talk about The BIG Deal!

As a student at BNU, you automatically become a part of the Students’ Union, that’s led by students, which grants you access to what we call the 'Big Deal'. This service provides all students with various societies, events and opportunities throughout the year. BNU is the only university in the UK that offers these services for free, including a variety of workshops, CV-building activities, societies, and social entertainment.

Societies

Joining a society is a fantastic way to expand your social network beyond your course peers or the individuals you live with and encourages you to meet new people with similar interests. All you have to do is simply purchase a free membership on the Students’ Union website to join, and you will then be a full member of that organisation. The best part is that you can join as many societies as you want and at any time you want. Additionally, if you want to create a society all you must do is email susocieties@bucks.ac.uk and ensure that you have 3 people (one of which could be you) on hand to start the process.

Events and entertainment

With live music, guest DJs, and themed nights, BNU offers the best entertainment in the city, with activities that are free for students every day of the week. In addition to this, The Venue and The Lounge in the Students’ Union offers a secure and welcoming social place for everyone. The Students’ Union also provides what we call SSHH (silent students, happy homes), which is a night bus that ensures students can get home safely after a night out at the SU, again all for free!

Recreational activities

There are many activities offered at BNU, including salsa, body pump courses, wakeboarding, one-off Thai cooking lessons, mixology demonstrations, DJing, and much more. By so doing, you can potentially pick up transferable skills that will help you in your future career, become a lifelong interest, or perhaps just use the opportunity to pass the time and take a welcome vacation from your studies. Moreover, if you’re interested in developing a certain skill that may not be highlighted or if you’re looking for more activities to be a part of, be sure to email surecactivities@bucks.ac.uk.
