I joined Buckinghamshire New University in 2018 in Adult Nursing, following a career as a senior lecturer in health and social care across both further and higher education. I am a registered nurse with a clinical background in surgical nursing and care home settings. These experiences continue to shape my teaching, which is rooted in compassion, creativity, and critical thinking.
I have a particular passion for making research engaging and relevant for nursing students and apprentices. I have published on innovative approaches to teaching research, the use of lateral thinking puzzles to foster creative problem-solving and a ‘murder mystery game designed to build teamwork and encourage reflective practice. More recently, I have been exploring how student nurses are using AI tools in their learning, a project that reflects my growing interest in the intersection of technology, education and professional practice.
A turning point in my academic journey came through attending a writing retreat, which not only reshaped my approach to scholarly writing but also led to several published works.
I am proud to be a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a registered member of the Nursing and Midwifery Council. One of the highlights of my career has been leading Erasmus exchange with our European partners, an experience that has enriched my own professional development.
At the heart of my work is a belief in nurturing curiosity, connection and confidence in every student, whether they are just beginning their studies or returning to education later in life.
