Mike Croll

I had a varied career before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2022 including as a roofer, a soldier, a humanitarian deminer, and a diplomat. I’ve also held senior positions with major organisations including Head of Overseas Security at the FCO, Head of Overseas Security at the European Union’s External Action Service, Head of Operations at the UN’s Department of Safety and Security, and Head of Security for Facebook’s EMEA regions. 

I’ve spent over 20 years living and working overseas including in Africa, Asia, the USA, the Middle East and in Europe.

I have a BSc(Hons) in Geography from UCL, and a MSc in Emergency Management from the University of Hertfordshire.

I’m a Member of the Security Institute, I’m an ASIS Chartered Protection Professional, and I’m a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

I’m interested in risk (perception, communication, quantification, assessment, and management), human factors in security, the evolution of security, and how new technology is shaping the future.
