International Women's Day 2024

BNU's Women in Business and Law Conference reveals inspiring speakers for International Women's Day

Buckinghamshire New University's Business and Law School is delighted to announce an outstanding set of speakers for its upcoming Women in Business and Law Conference.

Scheduled for Friday 8 March 2024, this in-person event promises a day brimming with inspiration, empowerment, and celebration to mark International Women's Day.

The conference provides a unique opportunity to learn, network, and draw inspiration from the remarkable achievements of women within our community and celebrate the strides made by women in the fields of business and law.

Speakers include Professor Karen Buckwell-Nutt, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor of BNU (Student Experience). Karen joined BNU as a Senior Lecturer in 2012, teaching BSc (Hons) Nursing after registering as an Adult Nurse 30 years earlier. After securing a head of school position, Karen now leads the Institute for Health and Social Care and provides strategic leadership for, and oversight of, all health and social care activities across the University. Since Autumn 2023, Karen also leads the University’s student experience portfolio.

Another key speaker is BNU's Head of Disability & Inclusion, Charlotte Stewart. Having worked in prison and mental health law, Charlotte oversees the Disability, Mental Health, Non-Medical Helpers and Assessment Team and is passionate about facilitating those traditionally excluded from higher education to succeed.

BNU's own Senior Lecturer in Business, Suzanne Doria, will also be taking to the stage. Leading modules across the School of Business and Law, Suzanne is also a proud alumni of the Aurora programme which is run by the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education and aimed at encouraging women to develop as future leaders for higher education.

Business Management student, business owner and GB athlete, Joanna Zalewska-Jarvis, will also be sharing her story. She became a mature student at BNU two years ago, after establishing her own eco-friendly cleaning business, representing Great Britain in the Dragon Boat European Championships and working across a variety of industries.

Nasifa Ahmadi, Graduate Teaching Associate for Law, and Elizabeth Ann Kelly, Academic Liaison Library Team Lead and Business and Law Librarian, will also be discussing their research on the importance of women in making public policy decision.

Outside of women of BNU, freelance beauty & lifestyle journalist and media and communication professional, Vanese Maddix, will be joining the panel, alongside Anna Bella, Director of Sales Development at Redis.

Anna leads a team of sales professionals and provides mentorship, coaching and training, to drive and back their success through creating an environment that aims to fosters high employee engagement, retention, and overall team success.

President of Business Chamber of Commerce for Maidenhead and Windsor and business owner, Seema Goyal, will also be making an appearance. Recognised as an award-winning businesswoman and entrepreneur, she has been working at the family business for over 55 years – and now manages it.

BNU’s School of Business and Law looks forward to welcoming you to this first of its kind event, celebrating International Women’s Day and the remarkable achievements of women.
