As an expert by experience Jo Vincent shares her lived experiences as a young stroke survivor, a heart patient and a person of working age living with invisible disability, chronic stroke fatigue and central stroke pain. 

As an expert by experience Jo is an honest, inspiring guest speaker and interviewee. Jo shares her medical and personal journey and openly shares her challenges, achievements and patient experiences with pre-registration and post-registration nurses, trainee allied health professionals and return to work professional at a variety of Universities including Buckinghamshire New University. 

In her role as expert by experience, Jo share her valuable and extensive insight into all stages of the patient process, from seeking diagnosis, undergoing treatment, living and maintaining independence and wellbeing despite disability, along with ongoing medical challenges. Jo’s valuable insight inspires positive attitudes and encourages awareness in a meaningful way, for students and patients both within the medical and nursing professions and the wider community.

Jo offers online and in person guest speaking sessions along with involvement in interviews, Q&A sessions, and giving focused talks sharing experiences relevant to selected modules. Elements of Jo’s experiences such as living with a chronic health condition, experiencing aphasia and medication management have been invaluable with the District Nursing programme and wider Nursing programmes. Jo’s role also involves working with academic staff to plan and develop curriculum, create teaching resources and contributing to course content directly by working with students to complete research activities and assessment criteria.

As an Expert by Experience Jo provides pre-registration student nurses and post-registration Specialist Practitioner District Nurses with the opportunities to learn from real life patient lived experience.
