We understand you may have lots of questions about joining BNU and we’re here to help make things as stress-free as possible! Here’s some common questions we get asked.

You will get your induction timetable 2 weeks before you start. Do keep an eye on your emails for full details.

Once you have completed both the online stage of enrolment and enrolment in person, you will be able to access your timetable on the MyBNU app. It may take a couple of days after completing the enrolment process for your timetable to appear.

We have limited availability in our halls of residences for January and April 2026 intakes.

For September 2026, we can guarantee you a place in one of our High Wycombe halls — just make sure to apply for accommodation before 31 August 2026.

You'll be able to park for free on our High Wycombe Campus and students with electric vehicles will be able to use our chargers. Car park C will be open to students on a first-come, first-served basis from 7am to 10pm Monday to Friday. Car park D will be available for both staff and students over the weekend, from 7am to 10pm.  Just tap your student ID card to open the barriers.  Accessible parking bays are located in car park C.  For information on this scheme, please email parking.permits@bnu.ac.uk.

To sign up for counselling support you will need to complete this registration form using your new BNU username and password. Once you have submitted your registration form, you will receive an email from us to confirm that it has been received and you will be added to the waiting list. You will be offered an initial triage assessment appointment. In this appointment we will discuss the concerns you are experiencing and explore the most appropriate support for you. This may include one at a time session, short term counselling, CBT support or mental health advise sessions.

We offer a wide range of academic support. We can help you develop your academic skills and improve your grades. We are here to help you regardless of your course subject, year, or level of attainment. 

The support we offer includes:

  • one-to-one support
  • feedback on written work.

The IT Service Desk is your first point of contact for IT Services.

You can find answers to common tech queries and detailed user guides to help you solve any issues via the Knowledge Base on the BNU Self-Service Portal. You can also type in your question in the search bar or go to the relevant service area to find resources and more information. Guidance on how to use the Self-Service Portal can be found on our website.

There is a gym on the ground floor of our High Wycombe Campus, fully equipped with all the very latest training equipment. We also have a new personal training studio complete with functional rig, available for use within personal training sessions. There’s also a range of group exercise classes, which take place in one of our two large studios on the High Wycombe Campus.

And what’s more, you can join the Gateway Gym at our High Wycombe Campus at our current student membership rates. If you’ve got conditions still to meet on your offer, you don’t need to wait until you've met these conditions - you can join right away and begin reaping the rewards of membership at one of the most comprehensive exercise and fitness centres in the area.

We have a multi-faith prayer / quiet room (The Sanctuary) available on each campus for quiet reflection, meditation and prayer for those of any faith or none. These are located on the first floor, north wing, room 10 at our High Wycombe Campus, on the third floor, room 9 at our Uxbridge Campus, and on the third floor of our Aylesbury Campus. These rooms can be accessed by using your student ID card to open the door and foot-wash facilities are available close to each room. The rooms are divided by privacy screens so that male and female students can use them at the same time.

There are a number of places of worship in High Wycombe. Some of those closest to the town centre are detailed below. Where there is no place of worship in the High Wycombe town centre, we have provided links to details of local Faith communities. 

To find your local GP surgery, and information on how to register with them, please visit the NHS website. Simply specify your postcode and it will bring up doctor surgeries near you.  

Once you are fully enrolled, you can request a letter confirming that you are a student by emailing students@bnu.ac.uk. Please include your full name and student ID number in the email and tell us who you would like us to address the letter to (this will usually be the local authority you pay your council tax to). We will send an electronic copy of your letter to the email address you used to contact us, and you will need to provide this to your local authority. 

Once you are fully enrolled, you can request a letter confirming that you are a student by emailing students@bnu.ac.uk. Please include your full name and student ID number in the email and tell us who you would like us to address the letter to (this will usually be the bank you would like to open an account with). We will send an electronic copy of your letter to the email address you used to contact us, and you will need to provide this to the bank. 

You can collect a form for a student rail card from the Student Hub. When you collect a form, a staff member at the Student Hub will stamp it and you can then complete the form and apply for your rail card. More information about the Student Hub, including our opening times and locations, can be found on our website.

In the UK we use type G plugs, which have three rectangular pins in a triangular pattern and a fuse inside. If you are travelling from a country that uses a different type of plug, you will need to buy suitable adaptors, so that you can plug in anything electrical that you bring with you. 

The tap water is safe to drink in the UK and is often consumed directly from the tap.

The Bucks Students’ Union is here to make life better for students at BNU and is fully independent from the University. They will support you with everything from academic representation and running a campaign, right through to joining a society and having a safe place to hang out in the evening.

BNU and Bucks Students’ Union believe that everyone has the right to work, live and study in a safe and supportive environment that is free from harassment and sexual misconduct, and fosters inclusivity and respect. As part of our SPEAK (Support, Prevent, Empower, Advocate and Knowledge) approach, we provide advice and guidance on how to report incidents, the support available to you, and how to access training on harassment and sexual misconduct. 

You can access all of this and more on our website. You can also attend sessions with our support staff during welcome week, which will be listed on your timetable. 

Please complete this online training before joining BNU. This training may contain content which some individuals may find upsetting or distressing. Please take care of your wellbeing - step away at any time during the training, take a break, or reach out for support if needed.
