Suzanne Cox

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2022, I worked as a children’s nurse in a London Paediatric hospital undertaking their rotation program and then working within one of their surgical units. After spending almost 6 years there, I spent a short time working as a clinical advisor of NHS 111 where I gained experience assessing adult and mental health patients and then moving back into practice as a deputy sister in an Oxfordshire hospital paediatric ward.

I studied for my degree in Child Health Nursing at Bournemouth University and my specialist area of interest paediatric surgery, especially general surgery. It can be quite an invisible range of illnesses as unlike other specialties, such as oncology, it is not always obvious how unwell a patient can be but has such an impact on their life. Seeing a patient quality of life and health improve after surgery is incredibly rewarding to be a part of. Now I am undertaking a new challenge moving into education where my aim is to support students as they enter nursing practice.
