Nicola Cavill

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2019 on a full-time basis, I was a Tutor and Practice Educator for social work students. My main job in social work practice was as a Social Worker in a community mental health team for over ten years.

I studied for my BSc Social Work at BNU in 1998. I received my Diploma in Social Work in 2000 and then completed an additional year to gain the BSc (Hons) Social Work Studies. I qualified as a Practice Educator in 2009.

My area of interest is in practice placements and I particularly enjoy supporting students in their placement learning. A large part of my role is in sourcing, auditing and matching placement opportunities to each individual student. This is a considerable responsibility as placements take up approximately half of their course. It is important that the area of social work, type of placement and learning opportunities match the student’s needs and learning requirements.

I am a member of BASW and I am registered by Social Work England.
