Biography
  • Prior to joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2026, I held a range of senior academic leadership roles at the University of East London, including Interim Director of Research, Impact and Innovation, REF 2029 Lead, and Associate Professor in Human Resource Management and People Analytics. I also served as Co-Director of the Centre for Work, Organisations, and Technology, an Associate Editor of the Centre for Innovation Management and Enterprise (CIME), Co-Deputy Chair of the UEL Research Ethics and Integrity Committee, and Editor-in-Chief of the Working Paper Series Journal.

Earlier in my career, I was Head of Research at NUST Business School, where I helped strengthen the school’s international research profile. My academic trajectory has been shaped by experience across the UK, China, Europe and Pakistan, complemented by sustained engagement with industry and international academic partnerships.

My research sits at the intersection of human resource management, leadership, organisational behaviour and organisational psychology, with a particular emphasis on employee attitudes and behaviours in contemporary workplaces. I have published extensively in leading Chartered ABS-AJG 4* and 3* ranked, and WoS-indexed Q1 journals, and have contributed to several externally funded research and knowledge exchange initiatives.

A notable highlight of my career has been the sustained publication of research in highly ranked journals, alongside recognition for research excellence, including the Best Researcher Award at NUST Business School, Jan 2020, and Royal Docks School of Business and Law, University of East London, April 2025.

Qualifications
  • I hold a PhD in Business Management from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China. I also completed an MA in Management at the University of Chester, UK, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at the University of East London, UK.

Research Interests/Academic Interests
  • My research focuses on human resource management, leadership, and organisational behaviour and organisational psychology, with particular attention to the mechanisms through which leadership and HR systems shape employee outcomes, including engagement, creativity, knowledge sharing, and counterproductive behaviours. This work is motivated by a broader interest in how organisations can develop evidence-informed practices that balance performance demands with employee wellbeing in complex and evolving organisational contexts.

External Positions/Memberships
  • I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a Chartered Academic Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (FCIPD). CIPD represents the largest network and institute of practitioners and academics who work in the field of human resource management, and a Chartered Management and Business Educator (CMBE). I am also an active member of the Academy of Management and the British Academy of Management.

Currently Supervising
  • I contribute to postgraduate and doctoral supervision in the areas of HRM, leadership, and organisational behaviour, and have supervised a range of MSc and doctoral dissertations to completion. I welcome applications from prospective PhD students whose interests align with my research in contemporary work and employment. I am keen to supervise projects in three interrelated areas. First, flexible careers, frontline managers, work–family interface, and career transitions and development. Second, individualised HR practices, such as idiosyncratic deals, co-worker social comparison processes, and the longer-term sustainability and effectiveness of personalised HR arrangements, particularly in relation to both focal employees and wider team dynamics. Third, employee wellbeing, work engagement, employee thriving at work, and from work, psychological contracts, and the role of emotions in shaping workplace behaviour and performance.

Methodologically, my work is predominantly quantitative, drawing on survey-based designs as well as more advanced approaches, including diary studies and longitudinal research. I place strong emphasis on rigorous empirical design and theory-driven inquiry. I am particularly interested in supporting doctoral researchers in developing a coherent publication pipeline during their studies and therefore strongly encourage applications from candidates interested in a paper-based (publication-route) PhD.
