Jo Edwards

Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2010, I worked as a qualified social worker in a range of different settings. As a newly qualified social worker I joined a team working with children with disabilities, then moving on to working within a Children and Families Referral and Assessment. Following this, I worked with adults with physical and sensory disabilities, specifically supporting those with additional needs relating to alcohol and substance misuse.

I studied for my Diploma in Social Work at Buckinghamshire New University, when it was known as Bucks Chiltern University College. I have since completed the Practice Teachers’ Award and an MSc in Child Protection and Adult Safeguarding.

My specialist area of interest is social policy. Social work is primarily affected by social policy and the political ideology which shapes these wider policy decisions. These changes then create changes in the way social work is perceived and delivered. I am also interested in a variety of different ‘elements’ of social work such as domestic violence and abuse, use of self, history of social work, ethics and values, alcohol and substance misuse and a range of social work skills.

I am registered social worker with Social Work England.

My career highlight is my ongoing work with my amazing and dedicated colleagues who all aspire to give our students the best learning experience possible.
