Biography
  • James Bell is an experienced lecturer specialising in cyber security, digital leadership, and insider threat analysis. With a career spanning several decades across IT service management, information security, and strategic project leadership, he brings a depth of practical and academic insight to his teaching at Buckinghamshire New University.

    Holding industry‑leading certifications—including CISSP, CISM, and ISO 27001 Lead Auditor—James combines rigorous theoretical knowledge with extensive real‑world experience. His teaching approach emphasises clarity, critical thinking, and accessibility, ensuring that complex cyber security concepts are delivered in a structured and relatable way.

    James played a central role in redesigning the university’s Digital Leadership Module, expanding its scope to include cyber security, privacy & OSINT, insider risk, and applied case studies to strengthen students’ understanding of emerging threats and professional practices. 

    Beyond academia, James is recognised in the public sector as a Principal Auditor with expertise in anomaly detection, protective monitoring, and information governance. His work is characterised by analytical rigour, strong problem‑solving skills, and the ability to develop security frameworks that are both practical and effective.
