Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2022, I was previously with The University of Sheffield, Sheffield, and at Arden University. Prior to this, I worked as a researcher with the Centre for Social Protection and Policy Studies (CSPPS) and Coalition for Climate Change. My work with CSPPS was on a research project funded by the African Union on the implementation and coordination challenges of implementing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in Africa. Prior to this, I worked in industry for over three decades mostly in the financial services sector in different countries. I also worked briefly as a consultant to some African countries on tackling economic and financial crimes. As a multidisciplinary researcher, I have collaborated with researchers from different universities/countries which has shaped my pedagogical philosophy. I am a passionate teacher and researcher with proven success resulting in a broad range of modules and invaluable exposure to different projects. My academic career is underpinned by over three decades in multifaceted settings and contexts(countries) coupled with a profound interest in different cultures and a passion for excellence and travels.

I studied for my PhD at University of Sheffield. at University of Nottingham for my masters. I also have an MBA and a postgraduate diploma in addition to my Bachelors all obtained from different universities in Africa. As a multidisciplinary researcher, my specialisms sit at the intersection of three distinct disciplines: criminology, sociology and social policy. I have demonstrated expertise in criminology, hate crime, data science and big data in criminology, financial and environmental crimes. I am also a keen expert in international development, political economy and social protection.

It is interesting because I have been able to translate some of my expertise into publications and have been afforded the privilege of working with many accomplished professionals within and outside the academia.

I am a member of several professional bodies including Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Chartered Institute of Capital Market Registrars, Social Policy Association, British Criminology Society and the Higher Education Academy.

My specialist knowledge has led me to work on different projects with multinational corporations, international civil society organisations, multilateral institutions and national governments across Africa, Asia and Latin America. We just completed a three-year research project on a TETFUND-funded project on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The project researchers are based in Africa, Europe and the America.

My greatest accolade to date has been my exciting collaborations with researchers from universities in Hong Kong (Lingnan), Norway (Agder), USA (Prairie View Texas and University of Houston) and Germany (Bremen).
