Staff Profile

Dr Elisavet Kalpaxi
I have been working as a lecturer in HE since 2010 at institutions such as Kingston University, Southbank University and The University of Northampton. I joined Buckinghamshire New University in 2019 because of the thriving Art, Design and Performance school and the University’s commitment to student support.
I studied for my Diploma in Restoration of Art and Archaeological Findings and my BA in Photography in Athens, before moving to London. I then worked towards my MA and PhD in Art (practise-based) at Goldsmiths College, University of London.
My research is concerned with practice-theory interactions in art, creative industries and media. It focuses on histories and traditions relating to contemporary fine art, design, and digital media, socio-cultural dynamics and discursive shifts in cultural production. Concepts that I have been particularly interested in include notions of narrativity, indexicality, materiality and reflexivity. In my role as a Senior Lecturer in Critical and Historical Studies, I am involved in students’ engagement with a broad range of concerns and the way they apply to and influence creative practice. This also includes the understanding and development of different methods that address practice-theory interactions.
