Dorothy Bean

Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2020, I was a divisional nurse in Nottingham with responsibility for Nottingham Children’s Hospital, and then an associate director in specialised commissioning for the South of England.

In addition to my existing qualifications which include a BSc in Nursing and a Master’s in Education for Primary Health Care from the University of Manchester, and a PGCert in HE from Oxford Brookes, I am currently undertaking a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Informatics.

My specialist area of interest is the use of data and digital systems to support developments in care.

I am a Trustee at Katherine House Hospice, Banbury, an Associate Member of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics, sitting on their Education and Standards Committee, and am registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

My specialist knowledge led to my attendance of the Cerner Annual Conference in Kansas in 2018 and the Magnet Excellence in Nursing Conference in Orlando in 2016. I was also invited to walk round Prince Charles’ garden with him and 3 other Macmillan nurses in 1996. However, for me, the most important thing has been my contribution to the development of academic clinical nurse fellows who I believe contribute to nursing development in the most spectacular way.
