Daisy D’Silva Toscano

Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2014, I worked in India as a programme manager (Social Worker) working with children, young people and women in deprived communities in rural and urban areas. In the UK, I worked as a Social Worker and as a Social Work Team Manager working within child protection and children with disabilities. I also assessed social work students in practice as a Practice Educator. I have a keen interest in ensuring social work students develop knowledge, skills and values through academic work and placement opportunities to help them develop into excellent Socal Workers.

I completed my Master’s in Social Work at the University of Mumbai (India) and my specialist area of interest/research is interprofessional practice, domestic violence, honour based killing and violent youth radicalisation. I also lead on involvement of People with Lived Experience in the social work curriculum.

I am registered as a Social Worker with Social Work England and I am a Fellow of the HEA. I have been part of a team of researchers from seven EU countries working on an EU wide research project on violent youth radicalisation.

My interest in providing good learning experience for students on placement prompted me to engage in the evaluation of the biggest social work teaching partnership in England-North East Social Work Alliance.

My greatest accolade to date/my career highlight is the successful completion of the research project on Violent Youth Radicalisation.
