Dr Cheryl Pitt

Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2007, I worked as a Research Officer for organisations such as Birkbeck University, The Thomas Coram Research Unit, and the Institute of Education, University of London.

I studied for my BSc Psychology and MSc Psychology and Health at Middlesex University, and was awarded my PhD by Brunel University. My specialist area of interest is Developmental and Health Psychology. My research history has focused on family and child health and welfare, and my PhD research explored the psychosocial outcomes of bone marrow transplant for children affected by a rare genetic disorder (MPS). I am a member of the British Psychological Society and an HEA Fellow.

My specialist knowledge has led me to work with healthcare professionals on pre-registration and postgraduate nursing courses, exploring the role that psychology plays in health. It has also led me to undertake research at a charity supporting children and families affected by a set of rare genetic disorders known as mucopolysaccharide diseases. This led to me completing my PhD.
