Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2022 I was a specialist midwife in infant feeding for Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust. My role involved upholding the standards required, to maintain full accreditation as a UNICEF Baby Friendly Hospital. This involved staff education, audit and the provision of support to staff and women and families with infant feeding challenges. Prior to this I worked as a clinical midwife at Luton & Dunstable NHS Trust caring for women and families across the spectrum of maternity care. Throughout my career I have remained passionate about keeping women at the heart of their care, supporting then on their journey to have a positive birth and early parenting experience.

I studied for my MSc in Advanced Health & Social Care (Midwifery) at City University, London where I developed a keen interest in understanding how the culture of the current maternity system impacts on birth and how we, as midwives can support women to have their optimal birth experience.

I am a member of the NMC Register as a Registered Midwife. I am also a member of the Royal College of Midwives. During my MSc I developed an interest in education and completed the Introductory Certificate in Academic Practice, the achievement of which gave me eligibility to become an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).

My career highlight is the journey I have been on both in practice and education to enlighten and deepen my understanding of midwifery care and how I can make a positive difference to women and their families, through both education and research.
