Dr Aarthi Ramlaul

Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in December 2022, I was a principal lecturer and programme leader of the undergraduate diagnostic radiography and imaging programme at the University of Hertfordshire (UH).

I studied for my Bachelor’s Degree in South Africa and for my MA and EdD at the University of Hertfordshire. My specialist areas of interest and research lies in critical thinking development and its impact on autonomous decision-making in diagnostic radiography practice; ethico-legal aspects of practice especially as we embrace greater use of artificial intelligence in radiography, and, in exploring the awarding gap in higher education.

I am a member of the Health and Care Professions Council, the Society and College of Radiographers (UK), the Society of Radiographers (South Africa) and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

My greatest accolade to date, apart from training and graduating circa 1700 radiographers during my leadership of the programme at UH, is the publishing of four textbooks (soon to be five) in medical imaging and radiotherapy. These are aimed at radiography students, qualified radiographers, radiology interns, junior radiologists and allied health professionals. My seminal research text published in 2010 remains a core text on most undergraduate radiography programmes within the UK, and in several countries.
