Psychology and Criminology

As a student with us, you’ll learn from leading academics and practitioners and have exciting opportunities to develop vital skills for your future career.

Our modules are cutting-edge, addressing the latest sector challenges and taught by research-active staff who regularly collaborate with external agencies and organisations. We work closely with employers to ensure our courses promote evidence-based practice and support the development of a highly skilled workforce.

You’ll explore a wide range of topics in psychology and criminology, with the flexibility to tailor your degree through optional modules that reflect your interests and career goals. Our teaching team includes experienced psychologists and criminologists who bring real-world insight and active research expertise to the classroom.

Many of our psychology programmes are accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), providing eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC)—the essential first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist. Our Cognitive Behavioural Therapy programmes are also accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).

Learning goes beyond the lecture hall. You’ll gain hands-on experience through practical learning, collaborative projects, and skills-based activities that prepare you for the workplace. You’ll also have access to enriching opportunities such as professional visits, guest speakers, and conferences.

With our state-of-the-art facilities, you can put on a virtual headset and immerse yourself in the world of psychology using the virtual reality experience in our specialist psychology lab. You can also measure brain and body responses to certain scenarios and experience a real counselling session.

You can also get access to a simulated crime scene and learn how to collect forensic evidence or can test your own theories and get to grips with VR, police interviews and more. This facility is complete with bloodstains, fingerprints and a range of evidence. It is led by a former member of the police detective unit.

At BNU, we make sure you have access to the facilities you need to help you succeed in whatever career you choose.
