Academic Advice and support for you

The University's Academic Advice website pages provide information about how your course runs, and what to do if you encounter difficulties with your studies or assessments. Find out more about arrangements for Semester 2 and our No Detriment Policy.

How to access IT Support and Free Software Packages

The IT Service Desk will be available to provide IT support during the Christmas period at the same times as the Library Desk. Please email IT@bnu.ac.uk or telephone 01494 605000 or (from an internal phone) ext. 5000 to contact the IT Service Desk.

We’ve launched the BNUAnywhere service to help with your online learning and assessments. You can access 60 software packages on the move, wherever you are, including Adobe’s Creative Suite, SPSS and many more. You’ll be able to access physical machines remotely in specific classrooms and virtual labs like the Cyberlab. BNUAnywhere can currently be used on Windows devices with support for Mac OS currently being developed. A guide on how to use BNUAnywhere can be found here, and you can find out which applications are currently available here.

Support available for our students

Student Hub

We have a team of friendly staff trained to deal with a wide range of enquiries from our students. We provide key information and help on many university services – we welcome any questions or concerns during the festive period. You can contact us on students@bnu.ac.uk. We are available between 9am and 5pm and look forward to hearing from you.

If you’re in emotional distress or struggling to cope, these organisations offer a 24/7 service:

Students' Union Advice Centre

If you need advice or someone to share a problem with, we are still here to help you with any issues you have with: money, the University, your course, your accommodation, your employment or consumer rights or anything else that’s worrying you.

Our service is confidential and independent of the University.

The easiest and quickest way to make an appointment is to email us at suadvice@bnu.ac.uk. During the holiday period, we aim to respond to queries within 24-48 hours or sooner during weekdays and we will arrange an appointment for you to speak to an adviser as soon as possible and at a time to suit you.

Appointments can be:

  • by telephone – we will phone you
  • online through Microsoft Teams – we will organise this

Over the holiday period, we will only be offering telephone and online appointments and will usually be available within 24 to 48 hours of a request from 10am-4pm, Monday to Thursday and to 3pm on Fridays – except for the Bank Holidays. Appointments outside these times are possible but may take longer to arrange.

Any other questions?
