Buckinghamshire New University and The Security Institute have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on supporting the future development of the security profession through education, research and professional engagement.
The partnership outlines several key areas for collaboration, including:
- Supporting education and professional development pathways within the security profession
- Encouraging engagement between students, academics and security practitioners
- Promoting applied research and knowledge exchange activities
- Exploring opportunities for curriculum development and professional education
- Supporting joint events, sector engagement initiatives and outreach activities
Through this collaboration, both organisations aim to promote greater alignment between academic learning and industry needs, while helping to raise awareness of career opportunities and professional development across the security sector.
Fiona Galbraith MSyl, Programme Leader for Global Security Programmes and Armed Forces Champion (designate) at BNU, said: "We're delighted to announce this important collaboration, which is about building ever closer links with the security profession. Our students already have the opportunity to conduct interesting work placements during their courses and the vast majority go on to fascinating careers across a wide range of sector employers. This new relationship is designed to provide even more of these opportunities whilst opening up our research and teaching opportunities to professionals at every stage of their security careers."
Sarah Austerberry CSyP FSyI, CEO of The Security Institute, said: “Collaboration between academia and the professional security community is essential in supporting the next generation of security professionals and ensuring the sector continues to evolve to meet emerging challenges. We are delighted to formalise this partnership with Buckinghamshire New University and look forward to working together on a range of initiatives that support education, research and professional development.”
